1.1b suggests Grade 1 and 2 must be taught alphabets and other languages through activity based methods. This might give more opportunities to English graduates trained in ECCE with more job opportunity. Because they point out teaching languages at this level will play a significant role in the cognitive development of the child.
P1.5 talks about professionalisation of educators. Here they are not mentioning the qualification to be an ECCE educator. They spoke about training aganwadi teachers, but I strongly recommend that languages should be taught by an English graduate because foundation stage is important in the development of a student and language acquisition is important. Hence it should be taught by a teacher trained for it.
2. Focus on foundational literacy and numeracy – Focus on improving the reading and writing skills of a student in a specific langauge is important. They have identified students lack in foundational literacy. P2.13 says redesigning the teacher education in foundational literacy. This will help them to be well equipped with the needs of students with different needs at the foundational needs. As we belong to the domain of languages we will be well equipped to teach English. It provides a great prospect of increase in career opportunities. This might also open career opportunities like content and curriculum developers.
Chapter 4 talks about Curriculum and Pedagogy in schools communication and multilingualism. This will boost our domain.
P4.1.1. b talks about the need of specialist language teachers. This will increase opportunities in our domain.
P4.1.1.d talks about multidisciplinary approach at the secondary stage. Students have an option of studying subject of their interest. There will be elective courses, if they are interested in English they will have a good foundation much before they enter college.
P4.4.1. Students will have a flexibility to choose their subject. If they are interested in arts and they are free to choose their course.
P4.5 emphasizes the importance of language learning and multilingualism.
P4.5.1 talks about making science and other textbooks to be available in local languages. It will have an impact in our domain since we might get an opportunity to translate various works into local languages, if we are good in both English as well as our mother tongue.
P4.5.2 and P4.5.3 emphasises the role of language where English language might play a significant role. From grade1 onwards students will be exposed to 3 or more languages, this might open new doors for English teachers. The coming generation will be well versed in 2 languages which focuses not only on reading, but also writing and communication aspect as well. This is because it will enhance the cognitive ability of the child.
In Page 82 second last paragraph it says English must be made available and taught in high quality manner at all government and non-government schools. The emphasis should be on functionality and fluency. P4.5.5 talks about continuation of 3 language formula.
P4.5.11 states that language teachers are required from pre primary stage onwards, hence it will increase the number of new openings for teachers.
P4.6.5 states that problem solving and logical reasoning can be developed among students through languages as well
P4.6.10 focus on current affairs. Courses on current affairs can be handled by English teachers as they can help in critical thinking, communication skills and also enquiry based learning will also be possible. Language teachers can hold sessions focussing on local, national and international news.
P4.8.4 talks about high quality translations, as experts in English domain, we play an important role in translating English. texts to Indian languages.
P4.8.5 points out that, if you are an expert in your subject, you can play a major role in developing textbook and will be rewarded for the same.
P4.10.2 talks about introduce literature and language clubs. This will develop and nurture the students interested in English right from their school level.
P4.10.4 says Olympiad exams for various subjects will be encouraged. There is English Olympiad, teachers can train students and this will also help them to get admission in colleges abroad.
P5.1.2 Teacher Recruitment Process talks about test to test the ability to test the ability of a teacher in a particular subject is good.
P5.1.6 incentives to teachers working in rural area will actually increase interest among teachers to take up this profession.
P5.3 talks about Continuous Professional development. This will improve teaching quality as well as more individuals will take up this profession
P5.5.1 four year integrated program is good because at one stretch they will graduate of aparticular subject as well as education.
11.4.3 Enhancing access tolibrary and online journals will help us to enhance our knowledge in our respective domain
P12.2.2 and P12.2.3 talks about academic and career support to students which will ensure that the students are getting placed after their education.
P12.3.9 Students can take courses through MOOCS.
12. 4 talks about Internationalisation of Education will also benefit students of my domain.
P12.2.7 Topic centered clubs and activities will help in building our knowledge as well as skills pertaining to that particular subject.
P12.3.1 Transforming the quality of open and distance learning will help in life long learning and advancing our knowledge.
Chapter 14 talks about boosting research culture in India. It might have a great impact on our domain as well
